In a message he posted on his X account on 28th December 2023, president Museveni revealed how his wife, first Lady Janet Museveni had contacted Covid-19 after feeling unwell on Christmas day and the day after.

According to president Museveni, the first lady started feeling what he termed as kukarakaatwa which loosely means feeling sandy in the throat, this prompted them to do a Rapid Corona test which was negative. However, another sample sent to Mbarara for PCR came back positive.

Upon testing positive for Covid-19, the family upon advise from their doctors decided that the first lady goes into self-isolation in one of the houses at Rwakyitura as the president continued with his programs.

Her supporters, friends and family sent her GET WELL SOON messages, indeed this has happened, after only three days in isolation, the first lady Janet Kataha Museveni is back, recovered from Covid-19.

According to president Museveni, his wife has defeated Covid-19 after samples sent to Mbarara returned negative.

President who for the better part of the last three years since the invasion of Covid-19 never allows any one to come closer to him without a mask, tasks his teams to test all those scheduled to meet him for Covid-19. Even those set to attend an event where Museveni is to be part have to test for Covid-19.

He contacted Covid-19 last year in June. After contacting the disease, the president was forced to delegate his presidential duties to prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja who even represented him at the National Heroes Day celebration which were held in Kakumiro district. This was the first time Museveni was delegating his presidential duties since coming to power and it was the first time he sought a sick leave.

Uganda is gearing to host two high level summits; the Non Aligned Movement (NAM) and G-77 summit all set to take place this year. The NAM summit will take place from the 15th-20th this month at the Munyonyo Common Wealth Resort and Conference Centre. However, government won’t require summit delegates to test for Covid-19 as some stake holders fear to expose their DNA’s.
