A recent prophecy by renowned Canadian evangelist Benny Hinn during a major crusade in Kampala has stirred political ripples within Uganda’s First Family. The prophecy, which appears to favor Odrek Rwabwogo—President Yoweri Museveni’s son-in-law—as a future national leader, has reportedly angered Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Museveni’s son and a key presidential contender.

The event took place at Miracle Centre Cathedral in Kampala, drawing thousands in attendance. During the service, Hinn invited Patience Museveni—Museveni’s daughter and Rwabwogo’s wife—to the stage. While praying for her, he declared that the Holy Spirit revealed she would soon occupy a significant position within State House. He also prophesied that she would accomplish “three great things” that would even surprise her.

As Hinn laid hands on her, Patience appeared visibly moved—raising her hands and weeping. Pastor Robert Kayanja, who hosted the crusade, urged the congregation to continue praying for her so the prophecy would be fulfilled. What caught many by surprise was the implication that Patience might become Uganda’s next First Lady—mirroring the role of her mother, Janet Museveni.

The prophecy has energized Rwabwogo’s supporters, some of whom have already begun printing campaign posters positioning him as a presidential hopeful. However, the growing momentum around Rwabwogo has reportedly unsettled Gen Muhoozi and his supporters. Insiders suggest that Muhoozi, who has long viewed himself as his father’s natural heir, is frustrated by what seems like both divine and political endorsement of his brother-in-law.

Janet Museveni is believed to favor Rwabwogo’s composed and diplomatic approach to leadership. Even President Museveni has reportedly dismissed Muhoozi’s concerns, insisting that Rwabwogo’s ambitions are legitimate and should not be obstructed. This backing has enabled Rwabwogo to expand his influence, meeting international leaders, investors, and key military and political figures.

Rwabwogo is also said to have played a pivotal role in organizing the recent national prayer and apology event at Kololo. During the ceremony, President Museveni and the First Lady publicly knelt and sought forgiveness from Ugandans—particularly opposition supporters and the Buganda Kingdom. The gesture was seen as a significant political moment, possibly signaling a shift in the country’s leadership tone.

Behind the scenes, however, tensions continue to simmer. According to sources close to the situation, Gen Muhoozi allegedly considered cracking down on Born-Again street preachers in Kampala following the prophecy. He is also said to have dismissed Benny Hinn’s miracles as fraudulent and vowed that neither the Special Forces Command (SFC) nor the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) would permit Rwabwogo to ascend to power.

Political analysts argue that Rwabwogo’s clean reputation, diplomatic finesse, and calm demeanor make him more appealing to religious leaders, investors, and even segments of the military. By contrast, Gen Muhoozi has faced criticism from opposition figures, accused of overseeing abductions and human rights abuses. Some senior military officials have reportedly refused to salute him, citing a lack of discipline and humility.

As Uganda inches closer to a post-Museveni era, the struggle for succession appears to be unfolding not just in political arenas, but also on spiritual fronts. Whether Benny Hinn’s prophecy was a divine message or a moment of religious encouragement, one thing is clear: the contest to lead Uganda after Museveni has taken a dramatic and spiritual turn.
