Veteran journalist and vocal political analyst Andrew Mwenda has criticized the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, alleging that she embezzled public funds intended for healthcare and school construction in Uganda.

Mwenda asserts that the Speaker lacks the moral high ground to condemn homosexuality, arguing that her actions have more significant repercussions for Uganda.

He claims, “Money was directly transferred from the Bank of Uganda to the parliamentary account, her bodyguard, driver, and personal assistant at Stanbic Bank. I have the bank statements,”

However, Mwenda demands that the Speaker publicly justify the expenditure of these funds. These accusations arise amidst the UK imposing sanctions on Ugandan politicians, including the Speaker of Parliament, for corruption charges related to misappropriation of funds from impoverished communities.

The public also urges the Speaker to uphold accountability, transparency, and adherence to the rule of law regarding the use of public funds and officials’ remuneration, fostering public trust and responsible fiscal management.

Honorable Ssekikubo has frequently called on the Speaker to address the misuse of public funds, proposing a parliamentary debate on commissioners awarding themselves approximately Shs1.7 billion, a proposition the Speaker dismissed as baseless.

With her political career hanging in the balance, Among must navigate this treacherous landscape with caution to avoid further escalation and repercussions.

A source revealed that Among, realizing she was under attack by the Deep State for threatening their succession plans, resorted to a primitive political tactic by summoning and parading all MPs, including opposition members, to her home area in Bukedea district.

According to sources, her intention was to demonstrate her control over the entire parliament, including MPs, which posed a threat to the Deep State’s calculations, as it showed she could command parliament to impeach the President, causing political turmoil in the country.

Another source added that, as a woman, Among can mount a robust challenge if she publicly declares her presidential ambitions.
