“Why I Refused An Assassination Plot Against Idi Amin” Museveni Narrates His Side Of The Story
President Yoweri Museveni has disclosed a tense and little-known episode from Uganda’s history — a time when he was asked to support a plan to assassinate former president Idi Amin. Speaking recently in Jinja, Museveni recounted how, in the 1970s, a group of well-dressed Ugandans approached him in Nairobi and Europe with an idea to hire Israeli mercenaries to eliminate Amin and end his repressive rule.
Museveni said that while the proposal appealed to those who had suffered under Amin’s brutality, he immediately rejected it. He explained that such an act would have been both immoral and risky for Uganda’s future.
