A fierce and bitter war of words has broken out between UPDF Commander General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is also the first son of Uganda, and his brother-in-law, Mr Odrek Rwabwogo.

The dispute, which has set social media ablaze, took a dramatic turn after a recording allegedly from Minister Rwabwogo began circulating on X (formerly Twitter). In the recording, Rwabwogo lashes out at General Muhoozi, branding him a “drunkard ruffian” who has stubbornly refused to stop drinking alcohol despite numerous interventions by his father, President Yoweri Museveni.

Rwabwogo did not stop there; he went on to accuse Muhoozi of engaging in bizarre and immoral behavior, including alleged incidents of rape and making reckless statements that, according to Rwabwogo, endanger the government, the first family, and even President Museveni himself.

These scathing remarks followed a series of controversial tweets from General Muhoozi, which began at the end of last week. In these tweets, Muhoozi criticized his father’s government for arresting his close ally and supporter, Member of Parliament Honorable Mark Mawanda.

Mawanda was detained on charges of corruption, but General Muhoozi claims that his arrest was orchestrated by “mafias” within the government who are intent on undermining his political aspirations.

Muhoozi specifically pointed fingers at Minister Rwabwogo, accusing him of being part of this alleged conspiracy.General Muhoozi did not mince his words, vowing to confront Rwabwogo and anyone else he perceives as sabotaging his plans to run for the presidency in 2026 under his political movement, the Patriotic League.

Minister Rwabwogo’s comments, however, have added an explosive layer to this public feud. In the voice note, Rwabwogo described Muhoozi as someone unfit to lead Uganda, using harsh language that has shocked many. He referred to Muhoozi as a “rumpen” (a local slang for a ruffian or thug) and expressed disbelief that someone of Muhoozi’s character could ever be entrusted with the leadership of the country.

This escalating conflict within the first family has sparked widespread debate across Uganda, with many wondering about the future of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the implications for the 2026 presidential elections.

As tensions continue to rise, the rift between these two powerful figures could have far-reaching consequences for the stability of the government and the political landscape in Uganda.

The public is now anxiously awaiting any official response from President Museveni, who has yet to comment on the growing discord within his family and government.
