BREAKING NEWS!! Man Kills His Son For Failing To Pass Police Recruitment Test
A 41-year-old man from Waterfalls, Harare, has been arrested for allegedly killing his teenage son in a brutal assault after the boy failed police recruitment tests.
The suspect, identified as Gibson Munyoro, works as a security officer. His son, 19-year-old Ngonidzashe Munyoro, had attended police selection interviews at Mkushi Academy (formerly Morris Depot) on July 29, 2025.
According to police, Ngonidzashe returned home on August 2 after being deemed unfit for police duties. His father reportedly became enraged when the teenager explained the reasons for his failure.
In the ensuing confrontation, Gibson allegedly tied his son’s hands and legs, inserted an iron bar between them, suspended him between two tables, and repeatedly struck him with a baton stick.
Witnesses say Ngonidzashe cried out for help during the beating, but Gibson threatened anyone who attempted to intervene. The assault ended only when his mother, Ruvimbo Masunga, rushed home after being alerted. She and others managed to restrain Gibson and move the injured teen into the house. Tragically, Ngonidzashe died shortly afterward from his injuries.
Police arrested Gibson at the scene. Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case is being treated as a murder investigation. “Full details will be released in due course,” he said.
The incident has shocked the community, sparking discussions on parental responsibility, anger management, and the urgent need for greater awareness of non-violent conflict resolution in families.
