“Step Down & Join Me” Gen. Rwashande Sends This Request to MP Ssekikubo after appearing before NRM Election Tribunal
Brigadier General Emmanuel Rwashande has called on Lwemiyaga County Member of Parliament, Hon. Theodore Ssekikubo, to set aside political differences and collaborate for the development of their constituency.
The appeal came shortly after Rwashande appeared before the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Election Disputes Tribunal, following challenges raised over the recent party primaries held on July 17, 2025.
Rwashande was declared the winner of the NRM primaries in Lwemiyaga, but the results have been met with strong opposition from Ssekikubo. The incumbent MP has rejected the outcome, alleging that the election was marred by irregularities and intimidation.
He specifically accused Rwashande of deploying Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers to disrupt the voting process and pressure his supporters.
The dispute has sparked internal friction within the ruling NRM party and drawn national attention. In response to the escalating tension, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has intervened, urging calm among party members—particularly those dissatisfied with the primary results.
The president confirmed that law enforcement agencies are investigating the reported incidents and emphasized the importance of due process.
President Museveni also issued a stern warning to politicians across the country ahead of the 2026 general elections. He cautioned against the use of inflammatory language and any attempts to incite the public, stating clearly that such actions would be met with legal consequences. “Anyone who goes against this directive will face the full force of the law,” Museveni declared.
Despite the ongoing controversy, Brig. Rwashande has adopted a conciliatory tone, extending an olive branch to his political rival. “Let us put our differences aside and work together for the good of Lwemiyaga,” he said, emphasizing that unity is essential for meaningful progress in the constituency.
As investigations proceed and political tensions remain high, the coming days will be critical for both the local leadership in Lwemiyaga and the broader stability of the NRM.
Whether MP Ssekikubo will accept the invitation to dialogue remains to be seen, but both constituents and national stakeholders are watching the situation closely.
