City house which houses the headquarters of Democratic Party caught fire today morning. Police was quick to put off the fire before it could spread to the nearby buildings. The cause of the fire hasn’t yet been revealed but at least no one died in the incident according to reports.

Equity bank which is just adjacent to city house was forced to briefly suspend operations following the chaos but later resumed normal operations in the course of the day.

“We have seven fire trucks with our officers deployed to contain the fire at City House shopping centre in Kampala,” Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire told journalists on Monday.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started at around 9:15 am in the basement which houses California Bar and other restaurants. The fire then spread to the third floor, where the opposition Democratic Party (DP) offices are located.

A URN reporter at Luwum Street, says that at the time of the fire outbreak, several shops near City House had not yet opened for business. At the time of filing this report, the fire brigade was working to contain the fire to stop it from spreading to DTL Plaza which houses Stanbic bank and other shops.

The police have cordoned off Luwum and William streets. This comes less than two days after a building housing along Nasser road also caught fire on Saturday with several shops and their properties burnt.

There were however, dramatic scenes as clients who were in a lodge at the building which caught fire managed to escape through the windows, some could be seen escaping with towels as the world watches. This has left netizens questioning how people who should be at work making ends meet found themselves engaging in kwepiicha sessions and bonking marathons as early as that time of 8:30am but regardless LIFE IS PRECIOUS always.
