Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, a remarkable figure in Uganda’s history, left an indelible mark on the country through his exceptional discipline, organizational skills, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the principles of revolutionary struggle, sacrifice, pan-Africanism, patriotism, courage, and accomplished freedom fighting.

His legacy continues to inspire and motivate individuals, particularly those from oppressed backgrounds, to strive for greatness and make a meaningful impact in their communities and beyond.

Born in 1952 in the rural town of Rukungiri, Uganda, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima’s journey to greatness began education at Makerere University, where he graduated in 1982.It was during this time that he joined the NRA liberation struggle, a pivotal moment in Uganda’s history that would shape the course of the nation for decades to come.

As a highly educated and proficient individual, Gen. Aronda quickly became an invaluable asset to the intelligence and political sections of the NRA.His exceptional leadership skills and ability to inspire and motivate his comrades earned him the respect and admiration of his peers, and he soon rose through the ranks to become one of the most influential figures in the movement.

Gen. Aronda’s dedication to the principles of revolutionary struggle, sacrifice, pan-Africanism, patriotism, courage, and accomplished freedom fighting was unparalleled.He was a true champion of the people, always putting the needs of others before his own and fighting tirelessly for justice and equality.

Tragically, Gen. Aronda’s life was cut short in a devastating plane crash on September 12th, 2015, while he was en route from South Korea to Uganda.His untimely passing was a tremendous loss to the nation, but his legacy continues to live on through the countless lives he touched and the impact he had on the world.

In recognition of his exceptional contributions to Uganda and his unwavering dedication to the revolutionary struggle, sacrifice, pan-Africanism, patriotism, courage, and accomplished freedom fighting, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni honored Gen. Aronda Nyakairima during the inaugural 2024 Kampala Defence and Security Expo.

Museveni cited theft involving army fuel, rations, pension money, allowances, and salaries, as well as corruption in personnel selection for external missions such as those in Somalia. He said the tragic incident where 57 soldiers were lost in Somalia was attributed to such corruption.

The expo, held at the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort, served as a fitting tribute to Gen. Aronda’s remarkable life and legacy.
