Just In!! Security Forces Block NUP Headquarters Ahead of Youth Protest Vote Launch
In a dramatic escalation this morning, joint security forces cordoned off the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters, just hours before the party was scheduled to hold its weekly press briefing. The highly anticipated event was set to mark the official launch of the Youth Protest Vote campaign.
Witnesses reported a heavy presence of both military and police around the NUP offices in Kamwokya, with roadblocks and armed patrols effectively sealing off the area. Party officials, journalists, and supporters were denied access to the premises, creating a tense and uneasy atmosphere.
The NUP had planned to kick off a national campaign aimed at mobilizing young Ugandans to register and vote in protest against what they call an oppressive regime. So far, party leaders have not released an official response to the security lockdown.
This latest move is likely to further inflame political tensions, with opposition figures accusing the government of eroding democratic freedoms and suppressing dissent.
More updates to come.
