A shocking incident has prompted the police in Kira Road Division to open an investigation following the unexpected death of Dr. Tom Patrick Mugizi, a respected lecturer at Victoria University and MUBS. The 64-year-old academic was found deceased in his home under unusual circumstances on January 3, 2026. The alarming discovery came after his sister, Nsasiirwe Annet Runtemu, could not reach him for several days. Concerned, she enlisted the help of a neighbor to check on him. Tragically, the neighbor found Dr. Mugizi’s lifeless body in his bed, in a state of advanced decomposition.

The house, located in Kisota Zone, Kikaaya Parish, Nakawa Division, Kampala District, appeared undisturbed with no signs of forced entry or missing property, which initially ruled out burglary. Police quickly arrived at the scene, documented the environment, and began speaking to those who had been in contact with the deceased. Dr. Mugizi’s body was then transported to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination, with authorities eager to establish the cause of death.

Early findings suggest that Dr. Mugizi had a history of chronic health issues, which may have played a role in his passing. However, the police have been careful to withhold any definitive conclusions until a thorough investigation is completed. The exact cause of death remains unclear, and the authorities are now piecing together the details of the case to understand what led to this tragic outcome.

Dr. Mugizi’s sudden and unexplained death has left the academic community in mourning. Colleagues and students from both Victoria University and MUBS have expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a teacher who was highly regarded for his commitment to education and mentorship. His unexpected passing has raised questions not only within his professional circle but also within his local community, where he was known as a reliable and well-respected figure.

As the investigation unfolds, the police are exploring all possible angles to determine the cause behind Dr. Mugizi’s death. Although natural causes such as his existing health conditions are still a possibility, investigators are leaving no room for assumptions. They are seeking further information that could reveal more about the days leading up to his tragic passing.

Authorities are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who had been in touch with Dr. Mugizi in the days before his death or who may have noticed anything unusual. Every piece of information could potentially help clarify the mysterious circumstances surrounding his demise.
While the investigation is still in its early stages, the community is left with a sense of unease. The loss of Dr. Mugizi has had a profound impact on his family, friends, and colleagues, all of whom are still trying to comprehend how someone so vital could be taken so suddenly. His death has sparked a range of emotions, from confusion to deep sorrow, as many seek closure in a situation that has left more questions than answers.
The investigation into Dr. Mugizi’s death is ongoing, and authorities are hopeful that they will soon be able to provide clarity.
