Uganda’s legal landscape has entered a defining moment with the official swearing-in of Dr. Flavian Zeija as the nation’s new Chief Justice. The landmark ceremony took place at President Yoweri Museveni’s country home in Kisozi, setting the stage for a new phase in the stewardship of the Judiciary.

The oath of office was administered in the presence of President Museveni, who personally hosted the function at his private farm. The choice of venue added a distinctive touch to the occasion, underscoring the importance attached to the transition in judicial leadership.

Dr. Zeija assumes the highest judicial office following his presidential appointment, positioning him at the center of Uganda’s justice system. His rise to Chief Justice reflects a steady progression through key roles within the Judiciary, highlighting years of legal experience and public service.

Speaking shortly after taking the oath, Dr. Zeija expressed deep appreciation for the continued trust placed in him by the Head of State. He pointed out that this marks his fourth appointment by the President within the Judiciary, calling it a profound professional honor and responsibility.
The new Chief Justice pledged to defend the rule of law and protect the independence of the courts. He stressed that professionalism, integrity, and fairness must remain the pillars guiding judicial officers at every level of the system.

He further noted that restoring and strengthening public confidence in the courts would be a central focus of his leadership. According to him, a credible justice system is vital for social stability, economic growth, and the protection of citizens’ rights.
