“We Will Continue To Kill Every Al Shabaab Terrorist However Long It Takes!” Muhoozi Vows After Al-Shabaab Attack Leaves Over 20 UPDF Soldiers Dead
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s Chief of Defense Forces and son of President Museveni, has issued a defiant response following a deadly ambush by Al-Shabaab militants in Somalia. In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Gen Muhoozi declared that Uganda’s army would not relent until the terrorist group is fully defeated.
> “We will continue to kill every Al-Shabaab terrorist however long it takes!” he posted, drawing widespread support and strong reactions from Ugandans online.
His comments came in the wake of a devastating attack in Bariire, a town southwest of Mogadishu, where more than 20 Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers were killed and over 30 wounded. The troops were deployed under the African Union’s peacekeeping mission aimed at combating terrorism and stabilizing Somalia.
According to both Somali sources and statements from Al-Shabaab, the militants launched the ambush shortly after Ugandan forces entered the area. In the intense firefight that followed, five UPDF armored vehicles were destroyed, forcing the soldiers to withdraw under heavy losses.
The attack has shocked the nation, prompting an outpouring of grief and solidarity on social media. Many Ugandans have commended the fallen soldiers’ courage and rallied behind Gen Muhoozi’s firm stance.
To underscore Uganda’s resolve, Muhoozi also shared a photo of Al-Shabaab fighters captured alive during the operation — a stark reminder that the fight continues.
As tensions remain high in Somalia, the UPDF is pressing forward. Gen Muhoozi’s message is clear: Uganda will not be cowed by terrorism, and justice for the fallen will be pursued relentlessly.
