“Is There Any Law That Stops Bobi Wine from Opening A Regional Political Office” Gen Otafiire Defends NUP From NRM
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Kahinda Otafiire, has defended opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, widely known as Bobi Wine, over the creation of regional offices for the National Unity Platform (NUP).
Otafiire highlighted that no law prohibits a registered political party from establishing offices across Uganda. He emphasized that as long as the party holds a license from the Electoral Commission, it has full authority to expand its operations nationwide.
His comments followed the recent launch of NUP’s western regional office in Mbarara City, shortly after the party’s eastern headquarters in Iganga District was inaugurated in August. The Iganga office was reportedly developed discreetly to avoid political harassment, with land acquired quietly, construction completed, and branding installed just hours before the official opening.
