Natasha Museveni Karugire, born in 1976 in Tanzania, is the eldest daughter of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni. Her early life was shaped by her family’s exile during Uganda’s political turmoil, which led them to live in several countries, including Tanzania, Sweden, and Kenya. While in Kenya, Natasha briefly attended Nyeri Complex Primary School.
Driven by a passion for fashion, Natasha pursued studies in fashion and design at the University of London, where she earned a degree. She later channeled her creative talents into founding the House of Kaine, a fashion and design firm. In 2000, Natasha married Edwin Karugire, a well-known Ugandan lawyer and businessman. Their wedding was a highly anticipated event, attended by prominent figures from various sectors, and the couple has been blessed with children, enriching their family life.
In addition to her career in fashion, Natasha has made significant contributions to writing and film. She authored an autobiography titled What’s in a Name: Kainembabazi, which offers a glimpse into her life as the daughter of a freedom fighter and president. She also directed the 2018 documentary 27 Guns, which recounts the 1981-1986 Ugandan Bush War and highlights her family’s pivotal role in Uganda’s liberation struggle.
Natasha’s dedication to her father is evident in her active support of his political campaigns, particularly in the 2006 and 2021 general elections. Furthermore, she has served as the president’s Private Secretary in charge of State House in Entebbe, reflecting her active involvement in national affairs.
In her personal life, Natasha places great emphasis on family values and spirituality. She has often expressed admiration for her parents’ parenting skills and strives to emulate these in raising her own children. Natasha’s commitment to her faith and family continues to guide both her personal and professional endeavors.
